Thank you Greece. You are dreamy

Rooftop bar in Athens

The last day of my trip before I go home, I have an early evening cocktail at the rooftop bar of my hotel. It is quiet and I’m looking out at the Acropolis, reflecting on my trip. In that moment I am so moved by the magic of Greece. I’m beyond grateful for a safe, happy adventure that was filled with so many beautiful memories, with so many beautiful people and places. And filled with amazing food.

Naxos

My trip took me to beautiful Naxos, I think one of my all time favorite Greek Islands.

Plaka Beach. Naxos has the best sandy beaches
The best day is finding a good sunbed
…and being served a donut

I meet Thomas and Hafid from Germany, what interesting and funny and charming guys! I miss you and hope to see you again!

At Drink in Peace

I meet Debbie and Daniel from Perth, we drive around Naxos and hang out for a few days. What a lovely couple. I’m touched by their kindness and affection for each other. And Debbie serves as a great navigator! See you one day in Perth!!

Basilico Cooking Class
The beautiful host, Anna, who I met in 2021. You are simply an amazing person
Thank you Spyros for some great photos for my blog!
Goodnight Naxos

Amorgos

What an unexpected surprise to discover this quiet, natural island. From the moment I arrived, I fall in love with this place.

Ahhhhh…my terrace
My friend Miriam from Toulouse. You are Amazing
The magical monastery of Saint Anna
This place…sigh
Ms Irene and her cooking class
The colors on every little street
My fave reading spot
IAMA, the day with a healer. I’ll never forget
The most beautiful sunset

Crete

I’ve wanted to go back to Crete for many years, but it is so shockingly different from quiet Amorgos that it takes me a minute to acclimate.

The island requires a car and some courage to fully explore!

My wheels in Crete. Easily found in a parking lot!
Rethymno, a beautiful city
St Georgio Beach Club, how did I get here?? I still don’t know, it’s not even on the map. I’m the only American
Samaria Gorge
The Secret Gorge, a wine and dining experience. It really is secret
The Salty Goat beach club
Such nice guys that own Salty Goat

On to Chania, Crete…

The magical, winding streets
Azade Hotel, a restored 1600s building
The colors…magical
Balos Lagoon..wow
The water. I will miss this so much
The pink sand. Insane
Waiting for the boat
A Cretan Greek Salad and my last book
The Pallas…a great place to write my blog
Stuck with no taxi back…getting a ride with the kitchen staff
Chania Sunset

As I compare these two cities in Crete, I like both but find Chania to be a bit “elevated” – just a bit more special.

I see why people love Crete, but also recognize that, for me, the smaller Greek islands are more my vibe. Perhaps they are better for solo travelers where it is easier to meet other travelers. But I’m so grateful for the experience.

Athens

I love Athens. Happy to have an excuse to spend the night on my journey home. And even better to see my friends Nikos and Laticia.

I love this annual rendezvous with you both!
I will never, ever get tired of seeing this site
My reads for this trip. Loved them all.

Thank you

Thank you to anyone and everyone that has taken the time to join me on my 2025 Greek Island adventure. I valued every single Like and Comment and encouragement text along the way.

I remain extraordinarily grateful for these trips and especially the people I meet along the way. And also for every single Greek salad along the way. I will miss you.

My wish for you is that you find the one special place that ignites your happiness and sense of adventure. I love so many places in the world but find Greece to be my special happy place.

Solo travel can be a bit scary but it is so empowering and invigorating. It shakes up your entire soul and gives you time to breathe, reflect and imagine.

With the deepest gratitude and love,

Elena
