Getting to know Amorgos

,

What an interesting and unique island!

Everywhere, including on the menu of most restaurants!
Villages and churches are remote

My new French friend and I drive to the local village of Lagada where we are looking for the recommended shop of an herbalist and healer, IAMA.

A local couple here has a distillery for locally grown herbs, made in to essential oils. The owner, Elena, shares their passion for oils that heal from the inside and out. It is homeopathic in nature but a local version.

Who doesn’t need these?

She shared that her husband Vangelis is a psychotherapist that specializes in energy therapy and healing. I schedule an appointment for the next day!

Lagada is a lovely small village with several cafes, no shops that I can see, but lots of winding alleys. There is a plan behind these winding walks, they are designed to delay and confuse pirates trying to invade the island. Now only tourists invade…haha but also confused.

My beautiful friend Miriam, her clothes match the background! So smart

We get lost a few times, happily, and find beautiful flowers and doors.

The streets are clean and are being freshly painted.

There are a variety of cafes here, and we plan to come back for dinner.

We head to the beach and rent a sunbed. The weather is perfect with a very light wind. Aigiali beach sits down below my hotel, one of the few beaches with sunbeds and umbrellas back off the beach. On this island they have decided against putting sunbeds and umbrellas directly on the beach. This will protect the beaches and also minimize massive tourism.

This island is similar, for me, to Folegandros. It is another island close to Milos that prefers to be natural and wild. This is what makes the Greek Islands so appealing – each one holds its own style and appeal. Here, hiking is popular and the beaches are unorganized.

Holy Trinity Church

As with all Greek islands there are almost more churches than people. With a population of 2,000 there are 340 churches. In one small town square there are 5 churches.

I have lunch on the beach, reading my book and people watching.

Cats hoping for a drop of food
Cats don’t like salad!

The afternoon ends with some swimming and reading. My reading is going slow! Too much to look at!

I finally finish book !

In the evening we head back to Lagada and eat at a small family restaurant. I get Pastichio, it is delicious and the waiter shares that his mom makes it

Pastichio and Chicken gyro
The menu…

It was a beautiful day with a bit of everything.

Cheers!
