The beach, doughnuts and Apollo

,

Yes, in Naxos you can have all of these in one beautiful day!

My new friends from Aus and I head out to the beach after breakfast. We elect to go to Agios Propokitos, where we stopped for lunch a few days prior.

AP Beach

The water is beautiful and the beach club has a great vibe.

Of course the owners are related to the owners of our hotel. They all seem to be related!!

The most beautiful experience, a man comes along with fresh donuts. These are the lightest, airiest of sugar donuts. Dreamy

This is a typical Greek beach day (except for donuts), a swim, reading a book, lunch, another swim, a nap.

Repetive but never gets old

We realize suddenly it is 6:30, the day went so fast in the best way.

Meeting Daniel and Debbie has been such a fun surprise, I learn a lot more about Perth and it makes me want to visit. I’ve warned them that I may take them up on their invite. Daniel is “Chief Officer” in a town in Perth, Debbie is a teacher and I hear more about their extensive travels around Asia.

In the evening, we walk into town to visit the Portara, the Arch of Naxos. This arch is the most iconic site in Naxos.

Building began in 6th century, it was to be a full building but was never finished due to a war
Full Moon. Pretty cool

We work our way back thru the winding back streets to find a recommended restaurant, Doukato. Somehow Google maps leads us there, a long line of people waiting to get in which makes it more appealing or maybe elusive.

We order a lovely bottle of wine, swordfish, fava and some salads.

The juices from the grilled fish go down into the Naxian potatoes. Yum
Fave puree, like hummus but an island specialty

The food is delicious and the conversation better.

Dinner is finished around 11:30 and the streets are still filled with tourists and families. Kids are given a lot of freedom and play on their own. It’s a happy energy.

Thank you Naxos!
