I set out today to explore this island as much as I can in a few days. There is a lot to see

I start by taking the bus to the Evangelista Monastery up in the hills. It’s a quiet place (obvi) and a short 15 minute bus ride.

As I’m researching places to go on Trip Advisor, someone rates this place as a 1 and says that the monk is mean. Hahaha. Maybe he’s been fired as the monks here today are kind.

I head back to town to explore a bit and find the highly recommended Bourtzi, a small island adjoining town that includes a museum, a small beach area and a cafe

The cafe is beautiful, overlooking the town and water. But the best thing about the Bourtzi cafe is their bathroom.

This is the bathroom sink.

Nicest view from a bathroom!!
I walk thru town a bit, as with most of these Greek villages you can get happily lost.

Time to head to the beach. I decide to go to Kolios beach, recommended by the UK friends and I’m instructed to take the bus to bus stop 14. The bus system is the backbone of transport here. The buses run every 15 minutes for the 30 minute trip to the last stop before turning around. Everything here is referenced by the Bus Stop. Each trip is either $2 or $3.
I see the sign for Bus stop 14. I get off the bus and nothing, no signage. A British couple is there too and we are perplexed, eventually we walk toward the few buildings and eventually find a couple walking up from the beach. It’s the funniest thing, instructions lacking any clarity. Just feels like everyone else knows where they are going except me! And this British couple….

I’m happy to find an empty beach bed and get settled for a few hours.
Same routine..some blogging, some reading, some swimming and today add in a SUP rental. It’s beautiful here. Quiet and peaceful and add in a few swans…

First time finding swans on a Greek island beach!!
The taverna is perfect and, shocking, I get a Greek salad. I could have 100 of these and not tire of them.

I stay here until sunset, it’s a beautiful way to wrap the day.

Time to get the bus back.
Nothing fancy for dinner tonight, I’m tired and happy to call it an early night. I’ve been following a lot of posts with food recommendations and decide to try this place for a gyro.

I rave to them about their gyros, one of the best I’ve had. I promise to share in my blog – so if you go to Skiathos look for No Name!

I’m really liking this island. So much to do and see and I can imagine coming back here.
But a few more things to see before I leave here!
Cheers!
